An increasing number of American clothing brands start to embrace the plus-size market, due to the growing fuller-figured population. Among the new creations a swimsuit called ‘fatkini’ has become a huge hit since its debut at the end of May this year.


Jun. 28 (ChinaNews.com) – According to reports by foreign media, an increasing number of American clothing brands start to embrace the plus-size market, due to the growing fuller-figured population. Among the new creations a swimsuit called ‘fatkini’ has become a huge hit since its debut in May this year.

Reports said that instead of feeling alienated by the fashion world, people with fuller figures now are getting more attention from designers, because clothing companies have found the fact that the plus-size market is huge and getting even bigger in America, and thus it's a very lucrative business. Plus-size blogger Gabi Gregg collaborated with a swimwear brand SwimsuitsForAll to create the "Fatkini," which were snapped up within an hour of going on sale on May 15.

Gabi Gregg told in an interview that she had been eager to design trendy and stylish plus-size swimwear, rather than buying those mostly plain and boring pieces in the market, which simply try to wrap them all up.

Lori Bergamotto, contributing style editor of Lucky magazine, also showed her support. She pointed out the common misconception in the fashion industry that the fuller-figured women wearing plus-sizes do not really care about fashion. And that, according to Bergamotto, was really far from the truth.
